The Institute for Human Activities (IHA) is a research project, initiated by a Dutch artist Renzo Martens and developed at the KASK – School of Arts in Ghent. IHA’s goal is to prove that artistic critique on economic inequality can redress it – not symbolically, but in material terms.

Since 2014 the IHA has collaborated with the Cercle d’Art des Travailleurs de Plantation Congolaise (CATPC). Together they set up theLusanga International Research Centre for Art and Economic Inequality(LIRCAEI).

Through exhibitions, presentations and the instigation of critical reflection, the IHA is reaching out beyond the Research Centre in Congo. Furthermore, the IHA facilitates the global dissemination of the artworks created with the CATPC, the profits of which return directly Congo to support the makers and their families, as well as community projects in Lusanga.
