The experimental animation “Georges” moves between the traditional lines of Chinese as well as Western landscape painting and their transfer to digital. In the oversaturated tones of the RGB color scale the mountain ranges, cloud banks and river courses are fused into abstract studies, which are not subordinated to the realism paradigm of commercial 3D software, but exist in broken time scales of simulations and penetrating object surfaces. By banishing humans from the depictions, Snow Yunxue Fu creates an interplay between the sublime and the dimensionless of synthesized nature.

curated by Robert Seidel within the programme Phantom Horizons

The on-going screening series Phantom Horizons presents digital as well as analogue works that question the paradigm of linear perspective, seeking a new kind of “status perspective” [Bedeutungsperspektive]. The latter was a development of ancient and medieval painting, in which the size of figures is determined by their hierarchical significance. Extending this approach using the methodology of deconstruction and the possibilities of contemporary film creation, the presented works open up multifaceted, unseen horizons.
