Daniel Palacios develops his creative works through the interplay of art, science and technology, applied to the structures of space and human perception. One characteristic feature of Palacios‘ work, a result of his basic training in the natural sciences, is its reference to real conditions, to which he gives plastic, expressive forms. Palacios‘ most recent works are concerned primarily with human memory and the objects which hold, preserve and transport it. People often connect their personal memories to objects which they carry around with them each day in order to ‘keep’ the memory of an occurrence; these objects function not so much as concrete visualisations but as associations with a specific event. As such, they adopt a position of prominence in contrast to the actual event. Starting out from the observation that particular objects within a defined cultural sphere are generally linked to specific types of emotions, experiences and memories, Palacios shows a full series of this kind of small memory ‘sculptures’ in an opulent, museum-like setting for his exhibition entitled “Shelter”: with the aid of various techniques including laser processing, the artist gives them the form of precious decorative jewellery; they are embossed with their ‘memory-information’ in a digitally legible way, but remain hermetic to the uninitiated visitor, so that the emphasis is on their visual attractiveness and originality.
