Disobedience. Art has never existed separately from politics. Art is always political, it can be both: a means of liberation and a means of enslavement. The contemporary art system is financed by the art market, and hence, serves its interests. For quite a while now, nothing about contemporary art has been discussed apart from its price.

The artist’s role is reduced to the role of a craftsman-proletarian. The collapse of the USSR made us emigrate. Zoya left for Israel, but having nothing to do with its occupation regime, she lives in Berlin. Avdey, persecuted by Putin’s clericals, obtained refugee status in the Czech Republic. As artists from the third world, we refuse to accept the national identity which is imposed on us. As far as the liberalist multi-culturalism is concerned, we, as left-oriented artists, would like to oppose it with distinct, politically clear, and critical art. We hope that our stand will rouse a keen response among our German comrades. We do not subordinate ourselves!
