I was born in Budapest of Syrian and Hungarian origins. I grew up in the western part of Germany, near Düsseldorf, and German became more or less my native language. Since 1992 I have been working and participating in exhibitions internationally. One of the works that best epitomises my practice from that time is Stretched Chair (1994). In 2009 I changed course and started to study social design, completed a doctorate, gave workshops and developed new projects. In 2011 the Syrian Revolution broke out, and I was deeply affected by the suffering of the people and their desire for change. Horrible years have followed since, but I have always been and still remain confident that art, design and architecture can bring about profound changes in the social field. They can save people in Syria and can bring useful knowledge to all parts of the world.
