Mark Themann

Australia

Mark Themann’s practice incorporates Installations (in static and time based media), performance, drawings, photo and print media. Notions of spacing, the durational, a reflexive performativity, text and context; are recurring markers within his practice. It hovers between the phenomenological and the absurd, the propositional, paradoxical and tautological.

For his exhibition at Künstlerhaus Bethanien he will create a work across two rooms, presenting wall based texts in relation to text based video loops (instructions for mental performances) and everyday materials. These shall engage multivalent poetic and ontological invitations, propositions and absurdities.  His 30 plus solo projects have spanned Australasia, Europe, USA, in works such as: “Solivitur Ambulando” (2001) Palais de Tokyo, Paris, “Passed For Export” (2004) Location One NYC, “Project For Multiple Days” (2010) Maison Dora Maar in association with Museum of Fine Arts Houston.
