Marie Zolamian

Belgium

Of Armenian origin, born in Beirut in 1975 which she left at the age of fifteen, having known from then on only the Lebanese capital at war, Marie Zolamian lives today in Liège in Belgium and chooses, henceforth, her exiles. The banishment, this pressure of the necessity, is a tear and a loss of one; the chosen exile, on the contrary, is a founding adventure, a consciousness of the present in a place, at the moment. Essentially painter and draftswoman, adopting other media according to her necessities, Marie Zolamian experience this creative journey through identity questions, whether they are individual or collective ones; she surveys memory places, thinks about the affiliation to physical or mental territories, observes the drift, the wandering, listens to the rooted stories. The drawing, the painting which she practices mostly in thrifty sizes, the sound recording, allow her to fix the fleeting moments of all these connections and disconnections which constitute a self-awareness.
