“Expo vs. Sci-Fi” is the title of a project I am currently working on, which analyses the history of world exhibitions in relation to science fiction. The universal expo has always been a projection of a bright and optimistic future, of progress in science and technology, and new ways to make the world a better place.

Science fiction, on the other hand, has always been considered a critical metaphor on contemporary times as seen from the future, predicting totalitarian regimes and nuclear holocausts caused by the exact same progress of science and technology and the lost belief in the humane nature of mankind. In other words, they are precisely each other`s opposites. By relating the two in the form of photographs where former world exhibition sites and artefacts are visited by extra-terrestrials, I try to create political stories with a sense of humour and to make an ironic-critical investigation into the recent past.
