Ethel Shipton was born and raised in Laredo, Texas. After receiving a BFA from the University of Texas at Austin she lived and worked in Mexico City during the 1990s. She is based full-time now in San Antonio. Her practice is informed by a strong conceptual base and encompasses a variety of expressions. Through painting, installation, photography and text, Shipton spotlights instants of clarity that flit by in the comings and goings of daily life. Past works have centred on ideas of urban scenes, language and attempts to process information. Time is another important issue in her oeuvre.
