Over the past year, Mancu¨ka has abandoned the principle of the handicraft production of his artefacts, which used to determine a priori the form of his work. This do-it-yourself aspect was not merely a reference to social practices in our region (where people were actually forced to make things themselves, since they couldn`t buy them ? they simply didn't exist), but the primary motivation of this process was to bring the production of the ephemeral artefact close to the body, senses and emotions. Mancu¨ka's latest work continues in this direction ? in his installations using rubber or a stretched-out chain of text, normal intellectual categories of perception are confronted with the viewer's sensory perception of a specific space.

Letztes Jahr hat Mancu¨ka das Prinzip der handgefertigten Produktion seiner Artefakte aufgegeben, welches die Form seiner Werke a priori bestimmte. Dieser Aspekt des Do-it-yourself war nicht bloß eine Referenz an die sozialen Begebenheiten in unserer Gegend (wo Leute gezwungen waren, Dinge selbst herzustellen, da man sie nicht kaufen konnte ? sie waren schlichtweg nicht erhältlich), sondern der wichtigste Ansporn für diesen Prozess war es, die Produktion eines kurzlebigen Artefakts dem Körper, den Sinnen und Gefühlen nahe zu bringen (...).
Mancu¨kas jüngste Werke gehen weiter in diese Richtung ? in seinen Installationen, die mit Gummi oder einer Textkette arbeiten, werden geläufige intellektuelle Kategorien mit der sinnlichen Wahrnehmung eines bestimmten Raums seitens der Zuschauer konfrontiert.
