Stine Marie Jacobsen

+

I work in a multidisciplinary way with performance, video, photography and text. Central themes that recur throughout my projects include cinema, gender archetypes, anonymity, death, violence, and mediation as a generic form.

My work develops associatively as well as site- and situation specific. Half of my body of work is collaboratively created with others and also my solo projects are often mediated through people from other fields of knowledge.

As I am interested in expanding the classical notion of individual production, I invite a chain of mediators to mutate and add "multiple voices" to the original "idea" and observe what disappears and what "lives on" in this process.

Recently these collaborations have resulted for example in a silent protest video about detention with a group of American high school students, inviting a Danish readers digest magazine to write my project into a crime story and later using my face for a fictive character in another story, asking cartoonists to illustrate my performances as the only mediated image. I currently also continue an ongoing collaboration with a Danish band, where we try to become more like each other.

An element of unpredictability occurs, when I create work with other mediators or participants, either in the form of unforeseen reactions or additional "voices", and I use this immediacy to generate work in a self-reflexive moment of production.
