Künstlerhaus Bethanien in its new location!

+

Betrayal of a lover, or a bland happy end? Whatever. Whether it's heralded with a simple tune or with wistful emphasis, the time has finally come: Künstlerhaus Bethanien is moving!

Relaunch / re-opening as from 7 pm on 11th June 2010, with exhibition openings and party to follow

After more than 35 hardworking and eventful years in the Bethanien building on Mariannenplatz in Kreuzberg, Künstlerhaus Bethanien will be continuing its studio and exhibition programme with renewed energy and extended space in its new location at Kottbusser Straße 10 / Kohlfurter Str. 41- 43 as from June 2010.

The simple but elegant commercial building between Fraenkelufer and Kottbusser Tor was acquired by Nicolas Berggruen Holdings in 2008, and accepted as an ideal new location for the Künstlerhaus following a creative concept for re-use. The long-term perspective is to develop the building with a total area of 10,000 m2 into a commercial centre, which will house a mix of creative culture, internationalism and imaginative experiment and so generate a stimulating influence on its surroundings. In the new location, the visitor to Künstlerhaus Bethanien will find more space for events, a bigger number of artists' studios and thus the expansion of the International Studio Programme, an improved workshop situation, and an entrance area opening directly onto Kottbusser Straße to make an impact on public space. In the longer term, a meeting place is planned - this should promote further meetings and exchange between visitors, artists and guests of the house.

Preparations for the move have been attended and actively supported by the Senate Office for Cultural Affairs and the shareholders of the Künstlerhaus Bethanien GmbH - the Academy of the Arts and the German Academic Exchange Service - as well as our partners at home and abroad. We would like to thank them all.

We are also grateful to the Stiftung Deutsche Klassenlotterie Berlin, whose generous allocation of funds made it possible to carry out the necessary conversion and development measures.

Such promising prospects call for celebration: from 7 pm on 11th June 2010 we plan to open the new location of Künstlerhaus Bethanien in suitable style, in the presence of the Governing Mayor of Berlin, of Nicolas Berggruen, and representatives of our partners. The event will also include the opening of a first series of exhibitions in the new rooms, with solo exhibitions of work by Patrick Bernatchez, Tine Oksbjerg and Robert Quint as well as a photographic group exhibition, "All my lovin'". Following this, a concert by SAMSARA BLUES EXPERIMENT will put visitors into party mood.

The relaunch event will be kindly sponsored by Daimler Financial Services.

We would love to celebrate this evening together with all those who have followed our work in the past - in the hope that they will remain faithful to us in the new location!

Best regards
