When Damien Deroubaix investigates political and social themes, anarcho-punk penetrates the world of art. Using a wide range of materials and techniques, he assembles quite extensive installations. Everything with name and status in the economy, politics and society may appear in these, from icons of contemporary history to the world of global companies and the codes of omnipresent advertising. But Deroubaix’ conglomerations of symbols are always combined with the codes of an underground culture, in particular with elements of Metal in its most radical form; “Grind”. The musical products of this have killed even the last remains of harmony and melody in favour of paralysing speed. "Grind" is splatter culture, at least with respect to its texts. The linguistic fragments to be seen in Studio 3 of the Künstlerhaus, therefore, originate from the universe of splatter aesthetics and "Grind".

Opening 21.1.2005, 7pm, Studio 3 / exhibition from 22nd January to 6th February

Gert Robijns’ works confront the audience with a form of “super-reality”, a parallel universe in competition with our own reality. This parallel world seems to appear after a kind of minimal “shift”, and Robijns induces the deviation from the norm by placing particular emphasis on images, sounds or objects as individual units. Reality is not reproduced, therefore, but reconfigured. The artist uses a minimum of signals and effects: familiar, everyday sounds, changes in temperature, a breath of wind or a flickering light bulb. The outcome is a balance of differing forces whose fragility and temporal restrictions can be recognised from the outset.
