Zsu Szabó

Nothing Personal

ZUSPIEL / Zsu Szabó’s photographic works are concerned with a wide range of thematic fields, but despite their diversity, are ultimately always about the hidden, mysterious aspects of life, love, and our dark, often unadmitted desires, lusts and fears.
Under the title Nothing Personal Szabó is showing a selection of photographs from an extensive series entitled RAUSCHEN  (Intoxications) in Künstlerhaus Bethanien. The first images of the series were produced rather by chance in private and intimate moments, but then supplemented gradually by shots of close friends that Szabó photographed spontaneously at exhibition openings, parties, meals, tattooing each other, in clubs etc.
Szabó is not interested in technical perfection in her photography but only in the spontaneity of the gesture and the closeness to her dearest friends and family expressed in the images. She is concerned with the intimacy, the unexpectedness, the beauty in these completely relaxed faces, documented mostly in a form of intoxication: Szabó captures the moment of complete abandonment of control by those portrayed, with the unconditional trust in the photographer that can only come from a close, personal relationship.
Zsu Szabó lives and works in Hamburg and Berlin.
