Lea Porsager

Cut-splice Supercluster

Porsager develops her works from occult theories and spiritual practices, which she applies to question normative ways of thinking and the limits of human knowledge. Transformative rituals and meditative techniques play a part in her works, and her artistic position is expressed via a kind of cult symbolism, with no desire to explain truths or spiritual concepts but rather to introduce new spheres of meaning and possible perspectives. She combines various media, with text, photography and film often forming the basis of her installations.
The work Cut-splice Supercluster elucidates the relations between ideas and formations (between content and form) as “intra-action”, whereby the dimensions of meaning overlap and interlock simultaneously. Defined by a strong theoretical and philosophical context, Porsager consciously presents her works as artistic speculation, so underlining the hypothetical assertions of her arrangements of rotating propellers, screws, blades, razors and video loops, which lack any kind of rational basis or logical answer.
As another form of expression with which to materialise her concept, Porsager designs variations of ideas and texts in artist books. In the book Cut-splice Supercluster (Eds. Porsager, Lea & Brøgger, Synnøve B.), she fuses theosophical concepts with agential realism and quantum mechanics.

Lea Porsager lives and works in Copenhagen. Her current residency at Künstlerhaus Bethanien is supported by the Danish Arts Foundation.
