Alona Rodeh

Safe and Sound

Alona Rodeh’s artistic practice consists of the extensive testing of cultural systems and phenomenas that finally merges objects, spaces and situations with choreographed, extreme or even humoristic performances. “Safe and Sound” is deeply based in the clubs of the counter culture – places where darkness offers another kind of safe refuge – and highlights the manipulation of space and sense of time as seen from the other side of today’s clubbing culture. Rohde’s three-part site-specific installation focuses on the ever increasing fight for safety and security in the city. She includes architectural interventions and a showcase piece facing the outside space. For the exhibition Rodeh invited Berlin based DJ and producer Rødhåd (Dystopian, Token) to create a new original soundtrack, which corresponds with the different stages of light in the room. Currently Alona Rodeh is receiving a fellowship from Artis, New York and the Israeli Ministry for Foreign Affairs in the context of the international studio program of the Künstlerhaus Bethanien. With the kind support of the Israeli Embassy in Germany.
