Sharon Houkema is a Dutch artist whose works gradually unfold their story to the spectator. The attention and time that the spectator invests becomes an integral part of the works. By making us retrace the artist’s steps Houkema draws attention to the dynamics of recognition and narration. Houkema has completed several international residencies, among others at El Eco Museo Experimental in Mexico City, ViaFarini in Milan and the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam. Recent projects include exhibitions at White Box in New York, Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, Fact Liverpool and La Casa Endida in Madrid.
