My works depict ubiquitous redevelopment sites in urban or suburban areas. During my journey from one city to another, I record signs of abrupt discontinuity in the urban fabric; new structures over old ones; and detritus from city construction or demolition.

Based on what I examined, my painting deals with the recurring cycle of decay and reconstruction that continuously transforms our environment. Suffusing photographic imagery with brushwork in an accumulative way, I seek to make a visceral documentation of places through painting. Obscured through mechanical processes such as photocopying and silkscreen printing, the collaged photo images look like residue from reality and yet, still hold the traces of record from the real. Upon them, I construct animated space with layered painterly marks. Most of my works are produced sequentially, which emphasizes the spatio-temporal continuation of changes in city space.

The Detroit Series, for example, consists of several paintings, each of which portrays a specific street in different neighborhoods. Knitted together, my works unfold an integrated vision of panoramic vistas extending over the past, present and future beyond the description of specific places at a specific time.
