Dafni Barbageorgopoulou

Greece

My practice focusses on the narrative structures of dreams and journeys, exploring how they might manifest themselves in concrete sculptural forms or through the medias of installation, drawing and collage. Dreams and journeys are thus the raw material of my practice, which specifically draws on myths and ritual elements from various cultures.

By borrowing motifs and repetitive patterns from Indonesian, Polynesian and Mexican tribal art, and linking them to other disciplines such as the philosophy of science, literature and architecture, I explore culturally different notions of space, place and presence. The central aim of this process is to create work which, in translating dynamic knowledge into imaginative portraits shaped from finite structures, suggests alternative models of thought.
