Commencing from the close inspection of traits particular to specific cinematic genres – the gangster film, the noir, the sci-fi or the espionage – what has always been in the core of my practice is the composition of narratives via the utilization of various elements of cinema. With particular attention to acting gestures, costume specificities, lighting conditions and cinema architecture I am interested in how minute audiovisual ruptures in cinema imply coming alterations in the overall plot. Most recently my research focused on those particular characteristics of the B-movie or the gangster film that project the production of suspense and fear in scenes preceding the culmination of action. Regardless to the medium chosen –the photographic tableau vivant or the installation – the objective is to capture in totality the atmosphere of each genre under scrutiny, by adopting its backbone traits.
